Summer Glow #GlowSkin

Hey loves!

Well a short background, l absolutely love make-up like trust me, hook your girl with high end good quality beauty products, l am your friend for life ∗Just saying∗. Though my love for make-up is real, what lies beneath the make-up – the true canvas, that l care about. My skin is not 100% but the goal is to work towards good glowing skin. l know we all want that radiant skin but we never want to put in the work (guilty as charged). We live busy lives “life on the go” and skincare is neglected. Trying to dedicate 15 minutes to our skin can be a toll, then we wonder why we have unannounced breakouts, dull skin and many more. There are 3 critical steps to give your skin the boost, that va-va-vroom appeal but lady there is work that needs to be done. Washing, Cleansing and Toning, but on today’s post l am looking at CLEANSING. Yes cleansing, Got it!

Cleansing has few benefits which will help your skin look fresher, healthy and more radiant. It removes build-up, encourages proper skin hydration and prevents the production of excess oil. Experts have discovered different ways to cleanse, from oil cleansing and many more. Below l have discussed a few well-known methods:

1. Oil Cleansing Method

This involves using a carrier oil e.g coconut oil and steam or a warm facecloth to properly removes impurities, all make-up traces and and oil build-up. Many women are in love with this method. I have tried it and l honestly did experience much difference plus skin feels extra soft. *thumbs up*

– Firstly boil some water, when water has boiled with enough steam, apply a teaspoon of your choice of oil into your palms and gently rub onto your face.

– Once applied, steam your face for about 5 mins and take a break.. Repeat this process 2 or 3 times (N.B. Please don’t burn your face, just be cautious not to spill any water). The steam gently opens up your pores and deeply cleanses the skin.

-Once completed, rinse your face with cold water to close your pores. Tone and moisturize as usual.

2. Exfoliation Method

This is probably the most common method of cleansing used by many women. The cleanser usually has AHA or beads to remove all impurities. Exfoliation is normally done after the washing process. If exfoliation properties are not included in the cleanser, an exfoliating brush, face cloth or face sponge are used. I recommend that, exfoliation is not done daily as this process can be harsh on the skin.

3. Double- Cleansing Method

Most women probably use this method as its simply cleaning your face twice. I personally use this method as l can thoroughly cleanse my face. It’s a two step process where l firstly remove my makeup with a carrier oil (olive or coconut oil) or facial wipes then l follow-up with washing my face with a foaming gel cleanser  or my african black soap. I ensure that my face products do not have any alcohol or sodium laurly sulphate as this can easily dry out my face.  Some people prefer to wash their face with raw honey, this also works…

4. 4-2-4 Method

Okay, well this method is new to me but l thought it would be interesting to share. It sounds complicated because of the numbers but it’s commonly used in Korea, now you understand why the numbers are there*wink*. Nonetheless, don’t let the numbers scare you because it has helped some women to live a pimple free life. So this is a 3 step process.

First apply a cleansing oil or cream and massage into your face for 4 minutes. Followed by washing your face with a cleansing foam or cream for 2 minutes and lastly rinse your face with lukewarm water and rinse with cold water for 4 mins. Voila, Hello! clean skin.

So there you have it lovely readers, an insight on cleansing. If you hadn’t started, l guess you now know what to do. Get cleansing!!

**Do share your experiences with cleansing, if you know any other methods and which method works for you**

Hebrews 10:23 ESV Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering because he who promised is faithful.

In our lives we sought to God with requests and we continually declare and confess his word but at times we lose hope and sight due to blows of life. But the word of God encourages us to HOLD FAST to the confession of our hope because trying times are coming, come what may. It’s always easy to have hope when life seems to be sailing and you are in constant fellowship with God, but once challenges come our way, hope is deferred.

What is to Hold fast the confession?

Well in simple terms, to firmly believe in the words you declare, e.g praying for healing, having a crusade, starting up a business, building an orphanage etc. When you believe and confess in your confession you will work towards it and guaranteed the results will show up.  Yes circumstances around you might be against you and confessing that word will ultimately seem impossible but child of God, do not waver. I will attest to this, in 2016 l was employed and gave my first fruit securing my job, and l was like well job security is secured because l have given my portion to God. Towards the end of 2016 l left the job because the environment  was not conjuicive. Leaving my job didn’t bother me because l was so certain that 2017 a better job will absolutely be at my doorstep because l did secure that job after all, *first fruit*

Well fast forward, the entire year of 2017, l was unemployed, yes no income whatsoever. I attended interviews but boy oh boy nothing fruitful would come out. I would apply but some days l would be reluctant but then l would push myself but still no income. Well in my opinion it didn’t make sense to me, l do have the qualifications but it seems like there’s no way out. Truth be told it felt like life was stagnant, (felt like Job) everyone around me but me was flourishing but l would always remember and hold fast to my confession. I finally landed a job in February 2018 and l can honestly say God is faithful to perform but it requires you as an individual to Hold fast to YOUR confession without wavering. So my question to you is what are you confessing?

Life will present lemons before us but Saint Paul writes 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV But he said unto me “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore l will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that the power of Christ will rest upon me”, God’s grace will locate us in any situation jus be aware of what you confess. It’s not easy to hold your head up high, when it seems like you are living a life of sinking sand but Keep Going!

Stay encouraged and be blessed!

#B2B – Moisture (L.O.C, L.C.O,L.O.G)

Hey loves

On today’s post l will further elaborate how water is a great moisturiser, as well as why our hair needs moisture and the different ways in which we can incorporate moisture into our hair.. l am certain that you have heard “girl your hair is too dry, it needs moisture”, or in the natural hair community the best way to mosturise your hair is to apply the LOC (Liquid, Oil, Cream) or the LCO (Liquid, Cream, Oil) and in some instances the MHM (Maximum Hydration Method- l will cover hydration in a different post). I will be honest there loves, it took me a very loooooong time to understand what the LOC method was all about. l was religious about the method but l had no idea why l was doing it. Well they say knowledge is power but without understanding its equally USELESS.

So women just to enlighten you, our scalp produces oil and sebum but that sebum is not always enough to protect our hair. The hair needs extreme gentle care, so if your hair looks, dry, thirsty, dull, let me help you. Ethnic hair looks incredibly thick, strong but it tends to be very fragile and can easily dry out fast, so as the queen of your hair just be sure what your needs. Let’s get right into the post.

Well what is Moisture ?

Water/other liquid diffuses in small quantities as vapour or can condense on the surface. Essentially, this means that when you spray water or water based products onto your hair, it will quickly evaporate due to external factors e.g weather and after some few hours your hair is dry/thirsty. So what this means, spraying water on its own on your hair is not sufficient- to keep/seal in the moisture in the hair or to slow down how fast water evaporates from the hair, one has to LOCK IN the moisture. There are two ways in which we can lock in the moisture known as moisture retention methods that will assist our hair. These two methods use the laying concept to layer moisture avoiding dryness. Before l discuss the two methods, l will shortly digress and briefly explain why its important to know your hair porosity, that way you are able to make an informed decision on which method to use for moisture retention.

Porosity is the hair’s ability to absorb moisture and you need to know in which category your hair lies Low, High and Normal.

Low Porosity – Hair appears to be shiny, looks very healthy, product easily sits on hair (Product build-up), moisture stays in hair, it does not dry up fast and lacks elasticity.

Normal Porosity #GOAL – Elasticity (full of bounce), looks healthy, absorbs and retains moisture well and resilient.

High Porosity – absorbs moisture fast, lacks luster and shine.

That is a brief guideline on hair porosity, will create a full post on Porosity. Look out for it! Now that posrosity is out of the way, we are back to moisture.

LOC (Liquid, Oil, Cream)  or  LCO (Liquid, Cream, Oil) method seals in the moisture

L – Water is matter made up of small molecules that are made up of two hrydrolyzed and oxygen H2O, which can easily penetrate through your hair, e.g. Water/Water-based Leave in Conditioners (on the ingredients section of the hair ensure that the FIRST ingredient is water). Some people use aloe vera gel/juice or rose water(*still to try it*)

O – Oil is matter but has larger molecules, e.g. Oil/Oil based products preferably essential oils ( peppermint, rosemary, lavender, tea tree oil) to help to promote growth.

C – Cream is a mixture of water and oil molecules so when combined together creates a chemical reaction called emulsification. Cream, well this solely depends on preference which can be a carrier oil( castor oil, coconut, shea butter, jojoba oil, almond, carrot oil, cantu shea- butter) just to nail a few.

Personally l use the LCO method to lock in moisture for my hair. I find that it has absolutely helped my hair in promoting Health. From experience, the LOC method worked well but my hair would dry out fast.

What l do -Firstly l lay my hair with the Liquid  Water/ Organics Olive Oil Leave- in Condition then add shea butter mixed with rosemary and l seal with coconut oil/castor oil/ olive oil or Olive Growth Oil..

Styling Moisture Method – LOG/ LCOG

On a site note, people who enjoy styling, the L.C.O.G (Liquid, Cream, Oil, Gel) or L.O.G ( Liquid, Oil, Gel) would work wonders for you since the LOG method is another variation of LOC . Moisture is essential for styling, so people who prefer wash and go’s styles, twists-out etc normally use the LOG method.

So there you have it my lovely readers, l hope this guideline will help you on how to moisturise your hair.

∗∗Let me know which moisture method you use or you are keen to try out and also the product variation in the comment section below∗∗…

Back To Basics #B2B -Water

Hey loves!

Well to kick off with the coils, l am starting a series called the Back to Basics #B2B where l will share the underlying issues with our hair and what basic remedies we have to incorporate in our regime.

African mufushwa ‘hair’ can be a nightmare in this dry hot summer seasons; hence water is GOLDEN. To have your curls pop, eradicate dryness, to stop that itchy scalp, look no further and grab some water. Growing up, water was my enemy for my hair but when l embraced my natural texture l have since loved H20. Water is one of the cheapest yet effective product to revitalize and add moisture to my hair/curls.

As many of us know that water is vital for our bodies and the recommended daily intake is 2liters, the same applies to our hair. Our hair needs water but not 2litres of course lols, so l find it difficult to decipher how we can drink water but not spritz our with water “food for thought”. Water makes up 12% -15% of the hair. Our hair is built of hair follicles  that require water to thrive and moisturizes our hair shaft/structure..

Water is the key component in all hair products that aid to giving our hair the moisture it needs. I will just list a few the benefits of water for our hair

Gives moisture and lustre

• Combats dryness which prevents breakage

• Protects the ends of the hair

•Easier detangling “that’s a bonus”

Well with every good side there’s always the bad side, in relation to lack of water/ moisture will result in the following  drawbacks:

• Dry, brittle hair and split ends

• Slow growth rate* yess hun Slow*

• Quicker product build’-up resulting in clogged hair pores

• Loss in lustre

• Rapid breakage in hair

Above is a summrised list of the setbacks but my job is to empower and to educate us all, so no worries. I will assist with some of my fixes.

As for my daily spritz  l make my own homemade spritz: 500ml water, 2 tbsp olive oil/ coconut oil and 1-2tbsp aloe vera juice(optional) when im om the go l will sometimes just use my off-the-shelf Organics Olive Oil Leave-in Conditioner.

So there you have it my good people, always live by that staple ingredient for our hair.. Look out for my next post where l talk about  B2B moisture.

****Let me know what are your uses for water in your hair care regime or if you don’t use water, what is your basic staple?… Do share below****

FYI…

Hey loves!

So a little background about your Curl Doctor – I have been natural for about 4 years and l had my last big chop in late 2016. l officially started taking care, well proper care of my hair April 2017, so to date l am just 11″months old and soon to celebrate my 1 year nappiversary in April 2018. One would then ask, why l decided to have the big chop just after 2 and half years of growth. Well ladies and gents l literally grew out of love with hair, l felt like natural hair had so many requirements and l couldn’t keep up and thus it resulted in neglecting my hair. Then to aid to my mixed emotions of my hair during that phase, l decided to cover up my hair and have a protective style known as straight back/ flat conrows with braids. Oh boy!!! my edges were instantly snatched in few minutes (like hairdresser why would u do that) then from that incident it was a true confirmation that l had to let go of my luscious HAIR!

Fastforward to March 2017, my hair journey began ”Hooray” So here l am to share my insight about growing HEALTHY , LENGHTY and HAIR MAINTENANCE. My primary focus will be natural hair BUT l will do posts on all types of hair to embrace all kinds of hair.

Just to wrap up this post, my big chop was a blessing because the amount of knowledge, research with regards to hair l have obtained is absolutely enormous. So to my people who just had a big chop, ladies still rocking a TWA (tweeny wennie afro), those who are not sure how to care for our ethnic hair and have real hair struggles, oh another one which PRODUCTS to use, well this platform has all the updates. So thank you for stopping by, see you in my next post.

Let your hair be your OWN personal brand…
